Justin, founder and CEO of ted Learning, has been delivering EDI/inclusive culture training for 20 years; helping organisations be more inclusive places to work is a subject he is passionate about.
What do you see as the biggest opportunities that organisations can take right now, and how do you suggest they leverage this?
“I think with some of the changes we are seeing in parts of the world around inclusive culture, organisations need to remind themselves and their employees why this is important – this ISNT about tick box. Or employing people based purely on race, religion, sex, etc but about making sure we have a better understanding of others and create the opportunities for all to be themselves at work.”
What do you love about what you do?
“I love human interactions and seeing how these can be enhanced and improved – I work with amazing colleagues, where we all feel safe, lovely clients and I enjoy what I do – I actually love my work!”
What advice would you give to someone who wants to become more inclusive, either professionally or personally?
“Take time to listen, research and be open minded. I have ensured I have met people from each of the protected characteristics so I can understand their lived experiences to help shape my own understanding and make me a more compassionated and considered human being. Don’t be frightened of getting it wrong BUT don’t blame the other person if you do, listen and acknowledge and learn from this. “
